How in the world did a good Methodist gal from a very small town in Minnesota, end up in Dallas? It wasn’t easy, but you can only be cold for so long! In 1971 Gretchen and her brand new husband, Clay, packed their car, and headed for Virginia. In Washing, D.C., she began a career in advertising, while Clay was assigned to The White House under presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, and Ford. After 12 years they moved back to Minnesota. It was there that Gretchen began attending her small home church again. As she began teaching Sunday school, she realized it was she who was being taught once again. She was finding her calling, finding her long germinating passion for children and igniting in them their unbridled love of God. After moving to Texas, a minister friend suggested Gretchen look into Children’s Christian Education, and everything fell into place. Gretchen has been married for 38 years to Clay; they have two children, Nick (28) specialty pastry chef for Whole Foods and Kya (23) manager of Bath & Bodyworks store; and two Airedale Terriers, Winston & Tilly (both are 5).
