DISCIPLE BIBLE SHORT-TERM STUDIES
These 8 week, in-depth, Bible study are modeled after the basic design of DISCIPLE Bible study. The study is based on these underlying principles of DISCIPLE: (1) The Bible as starting point, (2) preparation on the part of individual participants, (3) weekly discussion in a small-group setting that builds community, (4) a leader who functions as a facilitator, (5) a video component prepared by Biblical scholars, and (6) a focus each week on a mark of discipleship.

COMPANIONS IN CHRIST SHORT-TERM STUDIES
The Companions in Christ series offers small groups a powerfully transforming experience in spiritual formation. All resources in the series explore classic spiritual practices, and invite participants to develop daily patterns that open their lives to a deepening relationship with God and one another. There are several volumes in this series, each lasting approximately 9 weeks as a study, and each focusing on a specific aspect of Christian discipleship.

SENIOR PASTOR’S STUDIES
Dr. John Fiedler, the Senior Pastor of First United Methodist Church Dallas, offers personally led Bible studies once or twice a year. These studies are open to anyone who is interested. These are topical studies based around reading a book and participating in conversation about the book with Dr. Fiedler and others in the class.

ADVENT AND LENTEN STUDIES
Advent is the time that begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas and ends on Christmas Day. It is a time when Christians look both to the past and to the future. They look to the past to remember how God came to earth in order to bring salvation as the baby Jesus in Bethlehem. They look to the future for when Jesus will return to earth in order to complete the work He began by ushering in the Kingdom of God. As such, this is a time of celebration that God’s salvation will be accomplished and preparation for when Jesus returns.

Lent is the time between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday when Christians remember how Jesus began to make His way to Jerusalem where He would be crucified and, three days later, be resurrected. It is a time that is traditionally marked by deeper introspection as Christians consider their lives in the light of Christ’s gracious work on behalf of all humanity.

Short-term studies in the spirit of each one of these seasons are offered to aid people in more fully participating in the meaning of the seasons.
