At FirstChurch, we have been given a heart for care. We serve our congregation and those outside our walls by fulfilling prayer requests, planning and hosting weddings and funerals, and offering spiritual support to those in the hospital or in rehabilitation after illness.
At FirstChurch, we are honored to host memorials or funerals for departed loved ones. Our clergy staff will work with you to determine the right type of service and walk through the planning stages with you.
FirstChurch is also home to a Columbarium, which is a consecrated space created to serve as a final resting place and home for the safe keeping of our beloved’s ashes. It also serves as a place for quiet remembrance and prayer.
The Columbarium at FirstChurch features a wall of niches which accommodates urns filled with the earthly remains of any member or former member of the church, ordained Methodist minister, employees and former employees of the Church, and spouses, parents, children, and grandchildren (biological, adopted, foster or step) of the above-mentioned persons. A niche is $4,500 for members, and $5,600 for non-members. For information on setting up a payment plan, please contact Vicky Benish.
For additional information or questions regarding a funeral, memorial or the Columbarium, please contact Carrie Chavarria.
Our Guide for Planning Christian Funeral/Memorial Services is a thorough resource you can use to articulate your wishes in advance, or help describe the wishes of a recently departed loved one.
Each day we have many persons praying for family and friends of FirstChurch. Our prayer list is updated daily with any joys and concerns of our congregation including hospitalizations, surgeries, births, deaths, military personnel and illnesses. Ministers on staff and members of the congregation visit, call, write notes, deliver communion, and most importantly pray for concerns as they arise. If you have a care or concern you would like added to our prayer list, please contact Vicky Benish or fill out the form below.
If you have a pastoral emergency, and are in need of immediate assistance please call: (214) 220-2727, and follow the prompts. The minister on call will be contacted immediately.
When leaving a message, clearly state: Your name, name of person in need and phone number to contact.
Self-less volunteers gather once a month and individually in their homes to create beautiful prayer shawls, lap robes, caps and mufflers, and baby blankets to be delivered to hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, homes, and anyone who is in need of being wrapped in prayer. Contact Joan Bexley or Sandra Martin.
Those with the call to sharing words of encouragement and celebration, send cards with prayerfully crafted words on beautiful cards. These volunteers take great joy in sending comforting words to our bereaved, celebration to new parents, and hope to hospital dismissals, and all who would be blessed with their loving words. Contact Linda Stanford.
The prayer team is made up of faithful members who pray daily for persons who request prayer, for members who are experiencing ill health, or a rough spot in their lives, as well as prayers of celebration for joys. There is great power in persons of faith praying together. Contact Nancy Fears.
The Insider Visitation Ministry extends the continued love of Christ through contact and support to members who may no longer have the ability to attend worship in person. Volunteers for this ministry have the unique opportunity to bring the love of FirstChurch to our Insiders and keep them connected to their church through monthly visits and phone calls. Contact Rev. Anna Hagler.
