FirstChurch’s children’s ministry considers the whole child when creating faith journey experiences. Infants through 6th grade learn the basics of the Christian faith in a manner that allows them to develop each part of their identity and being. Every age level encounters God’s love through relationships, experiences, choices and scriptures that are age appropriate.
FirstChurch’s children’s ministry exists to guide the faith journey of children in kindergarten through 4th grade, to equip parents/caregivers as partners in their students’ faith journeys, and to equip adult leaders for ministry. The fundamental message of this ministry is LOVE – love for God, neighbor, self and earth. This ministry is designed to be both leader and guide, working with parents and students to grow and learn together as a family unit.
We welcome infants and toddlers into our spaces. Childcare is available in our Nursery during the 10:00 a.m. worship service and during the Learning Hour at 11:00 a.m. for infants through kindergarten-age children. The Nursery offers care in a secure location with trained professionals. In addition, a comfy, quiet room is available for nursing, crying, or quiet time.
In addition to the Nursery on Sundays, the Developmental Learning Center (DLC) offers childcare Monday – Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for infants through kindergarten-age children. It is the DLC’s mission to provide a safe, secure, loving and nurturing Christian environment that encourages young children (and their families) in social, emotional, academic and spiritual development. Our Director of Children’s Ministries Leah Bailey produces weekly Sunday school lessons for kindergarten – 4th grade that can be watched on demand!
Zone56 develops leadership and spirituality among 5th and 6th graders to help them grow as disciples and live their faith. This program precedes confirmation and is built upon curriculum that includes topics specific to pre-teens shared through engaging discussion and games.
Wonderfully Made, Loved by God is a human sexuality education class that helps pre-teens understand their changing bodies and to see their sexuality as a gift from God. Students will discuss factual information using anatomical illustrations, reflection questions, and spiritual practices. Topics covered in a Wonderfully Made Experience, include anatomy, puberty, reproduction, sexual health, relationships and boundaries. The aim is to help educate students on how to cope with their growing and changing bodies, and to foster a healthy attitude toward their own sexuality as a part of God’s plan. This class is held every two years for current 5th and 6th graders.
